The novel as fiction
I encountered some people who consider or try to undermine fiction as a mere fairytale. They don't think it has a value or any practical implications on the real world; for them, it's unreal. But for me, sometimes when I read my favourite "fiction" writers, I find fiction more real than life itself. The writing process uses the writer's unconscious mind. Because of that, the writer could be partially foreign to his own craft. That's why stories are by nature open to interpretations . If we try to read literary novels in a literal sense, we lose their essence. We can't read multilayered stories or texts in the old-fashioned way. A novel has metaphysical aspects, it's more than a story; that's why we reread some novels once in a while. The struggle of a creative writer is to grasp the complexity of life through language, story, form, character, symbol, metaphor, and texture. The modern life we lead is full of absolute chaos.
